There's always something to celebrate in Plymouth. There's an endless
stream of festivals, concerts, exhibitions and conventions. Here are some
of the main events for 2006.
World Powerboats Championships: British Grand Prix
4 August - 6 August
The fast and furious world of International Power boating has returned
to Plymouth for the British Power boating
Grand Prix.
As in previous years the racing will provide a wonderful spectable for
crowds gathered on Plymouth Hoe and at other vantage points around the
coast.
Plymouth Sound is one of the best natural arenas in the world for water
sports, and the Hoe provides a unique Grandstand for spectators to watch
the entire race.
British Fireworks Championships Final
Tuesday 15th August, 9 PM
Wednesday 16th August, 9 PM
More than 100,000 spectators are expected to gather on and around the Hoe for the spectacular two-day event
The fireworks are let off from pontoons in Plymouth Sound, providing
a spectacular sight for the crowds gathered on the Hoe.
Navy days - Plymouth
Saturday 26th August, 9.00AM - Monday 28th August, 6.00PM
The Royal Navy's biggest public event, Navy Days is unique
now to Devonport which is the largest naval base in Western Europe. The
event offers the opportunity to go on board RN ships and submarines and
meet their crews as well as those of visiting of foreign naval ships.
On show alongside exhibits from all three Armed Services, the maritime
and defence industries will be the historic South Yard with its Museum
and buildings dating from 1694.
